Gravity & Movement Rolling Ball

Rolling Ball Machine sculpture by Bruce Gray at rolling Ball Museum, Seoul, KoreaSoundtrack is a kinetic wall sculpture with a steel ball that starts at the top track, and by gravity follows a path over a variety of musical tracks and chimes. This sculpture was commissioned by The Rolling Ball Museum in Seoul, Korea

Rolling ball sculptures are quite fun to watch. Sometimes they are designed to allow viewers to drop a ball into them so they can witness the amazing acrobatics. Some run automatically. These sculptures have always been an attraction to me, but Superplexus is not one of them. Rolling ball sculptures rely on the track being fixed in one position so that the ball cannot fall off unexpectedly. They are for the most part observational and not interactive. On the other hand, Superplexus requires the track system to swing around continuously to orient the path with the plane of the earth. This is what allows the ball to move along. Of course, Superplexus is fully hands-on... and the ball often falls off unexpectedly!
